Blog beheading.

  • Feb. 9th, 2010 at 8:54 AM

The sad part about Twitter is that it has destroyed my blog. It wasn't a gradual decline where it got sick and slowly died away, it was a livejournal beheading. Damn you Twitter. When I look back on my digital history I only see glimpses and snarky 140 character or less remarks at my life. I miss my weekly, and at one point daily, reflections on life. I miss my photo posts to remind me of all the wonderful things I do on a daily basis. I'm a visual person and if I don't write things down I miss them. I forget those memories. They somehow get wiped from my mind. The year I attempted to blog daily is my most vivid year. I spent time appreciating those memories. Blogging helped me slow down and savor the small daily activities. Those are the memories that you don't want to lose; the way Aaron looks when he's packing to go on a trip, the bff sleeping under her own laundry, the micro snail iced to the window on a frigid morning. Seriously, miniscule things like snails are the memories I can recall when I blog.

My weeks are busy. My weekends are fun. They all just fly by. I know I'm not going to want to miss out on these amazing times. We laugh so hard during the week it's ridiculous. I want to remember everything about my life during these times. I'm living with amazing people, starting businesses, starting to publish a book, and most of all actually making the life I've worked so hard for. I vow not to let Twitter suck those memories away from me. Starting with a post a week I promise to get my digital life back from facebook and Twitter and myspace and ... Ugh it doesn't end.

The key to this is the iPhone. It's successfully helped me change my life and productivity level. I finally found a blogging app that let's me post remotely and effortlessly. The key for me is ease. It used to be I had to shoot with my still camera, edit the images, post to hosting directly, write the post in html, format the post around the images, and post finally. Daily, that amounts to more than an hour depending on the content. More than ever I don't have an hour to spare, even to read. Thank you amazing apps for making it easy for me to preserve my memories and thank you iPhone camera for being so useful and clear. 1400 photos stored so far and that means I've got a lot of caching up to do :). Looking forward to it now.

The photo attached is our New Years card. Yes, were sending out New Years cards in February. That's how busy things are here. Soon we'll be taking a "family photo" of the four housemates. Now it's time to peel myself off Joes couch in Ventura and go shoot. Ahh thank you again landscape blog writing via the iPhone. You just made my day. Marry me iPhone?
